Tips and Hints on How to Join this Forum

Hi all,

Just to clear up a few problems/queries, I thought I'd put a little note here on how to sign up to this Forum as a sort of guide to make it easier for all.

Okay, hit the REGISTER button at the top of the board when it loads. It asks you for a Login name and an email address. Your Login name is NOT the profile name that people will see for you when you post on the board, it is purely your Login name to the site and private to you. So it can be as simple as your first and last name. However, do NOT use caps or spaces. For example, I Login as 'admin'.

It's also at this initial stage that you can tick the box to keep your email address private. This is your right to do this. It MUST be a valid email address though as this is where they will email your password to you.

Then you need to check that email address to find the email from the board telling you what your unique password will be. It will also confirm your Login name. Don't worry that the password is completely unmemorable. Just copy it (ctrl c) and when you Login to the forum you can then change it to a memorable one of your own.

Okay, so you've now got your password and Login name. Go back to the Board and hit the LOGIN button at the top. Use your Login name and paste in the unmemorable password (ctrl v). Here you also have an option to tick the box to remain logged in on your computer. I use this on mine and it means that whenever you bring up the board, you are automatically logged in until you choose to hit the LOGOUT button. However, don't use this if you are on a shared or public computer.

Okay, you are logged in and it brings up the board. In order to select a screen name and change your password etc you need to hit the PROFILE button at the top. Okay, once in here you can do all sorts:

- Change your password to a more memorable one
- Select a screen name that people will see when you post a message
- Put in your email address (necessary and MUST be valid)
- Select your gender (not required)
- Put in your birthdate (not required)
- Add website or instant messaging information (not required)
- Add some personal text to be shown under your screen name when you post (not required)
- Select a personalised picture, whether from the list or one of your own (not required)
- Tick the box to hide your email address from the public if you wish (the only person who will ever be able to see this will be the Administrators of this board and that's only me)
- Choose a time format
- Choose a time offset - this is necessary if you wish your posts to show the correct time of posting in your local area, i.e. in the UK you should put +7 in the box for GMT (the board is from an American provider so defaults to US time - sometimes the time is out by 10 or 15 mins, this is due to server running times from the US, generally +7 hours is about right, give or take 10 mins or so)
- Add a signature (not required) - this will be shown at the end of every post you make on the board

Then hit the CHANGE PROFILE button and you're done! Next time you enter the board, you just Login with your Login name and password and your new Profile automatically is used when you post. Or, if you ticked the box to remain logged in on your computer, when you enter the board you will automatically go in using your own Profile.

Oh, just remembered something else. Don't forget you CAN change your Screen Name in the future as far as I know should you wish to change it. Just go into your Profile and change it there.

Hope that all helps. Please do NOT reply to this post on the board but email me with any problems and I'll see what I can do to help.

Cheers...
